Are wood watches waterproof?
Share
When it comes to wooden watches a common question is whether they are waterproof.
Understanding the Construction
Wood watches are typically treated with a sealant to protect the wood from moisture and humidity. However, this sealant does not make the watch completely waterproof. That said, it provides a level of water resistance, but it is important to note the limitations. All our wood watches are 3ATM water resistant.
Water Resistance vs. Waterproof
It is crucial to differentiate between water resistance and waterproof. Water-resistant watches can withstand small amounts of moisture, such as splashes or light rain. Whereas, waterproof watches are designed to be submerged in water without causing any damage.
Limitations of Wood Watches
Due to the nature of wood as a material, wood watches do have limitations when it comes to waterproofing. Prolonged exposure to water can damage and warm the wood; compromising the integrity of the watch. Avoid submerging a wood watch in water to prevent any damage.
Protecting Your Wood Watch
To prolong the life of your wood watch and maintain its appearance, we recommended avoiding exposing it to water as much as possible out side of day-to-day usage. If your watch does get wet, dry with a soft cloth to best prevent water damage. Storing your wood watch in a cool, dry place can help preserve its quality - such as our Bamboo watch boxes.
By understanding the limitations of your wood watch and taking proper care of it, you can enjoy having a positive impact with your sustainable watch, whilst benefiting from the unique style for years to come.
